BREAKING: Fliggo to be rolled into Vidly
Dear Fliggo Faithfuls,
Fliggo started as a two-man initiative in September 2007 and it has come a long way since then. It's now 2 years later, and Fliggo has grown to power over 17,000 unique video sites and tens of thousands of users.
For most of our company's lifetime, Fliggo was entirely self-funded, until we were accepted into the Y Combinator program, which changed the trajectory of our company and lives forever. We then worked harder than ever before to build Fliggo to the point that it is now.
When we launched Fliggo officially as a "Create your own YouTube" site, we had great response and things were going well. Things were going so well that we were quickly running out of cash, and we needed to hire more people badly. So, we began an effort to raise money.
Raising money proved difficult in the current economic climate, despite the fact we had a good amount of paying customers. It was at that point that we decided to use the technology we built to roll out a Twitter video sharing service. We built it in a matter of days, and launched it to much critical acclaim.
Once TwitVid (now Vidly) launched on May 15, 2009, we worked as best we could, and succeeded, to get investment so that we could keep the lights on.
With Vidly taking off, we needed to make a decision about the future of Fliggo.
While we want to continue running Fliggo, it has become impossible to run both services at the same time. We feel it's important that everyone understands how much we love Fliggo: we put our sweat, blood, and tears into running the service. It breaks our heart that we can't continue to run both websites.
Therefore, on November 1, we will be merging Fliggo in to Vidly.
Don't worry, your video collections will NOT BE LOST! You will be able to continue to access, manage and upload your videos to Vidly.
What you will lose, is your customization. While Vidly will have minor customization options, it will not be near the extensiveness of Fliggo's customization engine.
Paying customers will receive refunds where appropriate
We will be issuing refunds to customers that have signed up in the past month, or have prepaid for a year up front. From today, we will be disabling any further charges.

We'll have more details in the coming weeks as to how we plan to merge the services and some further options that we can give you.

New uploader, importer, and premium accounts now available!
Hey everyone,
Your patience has paid off! Some of you may have already noticed, but we released a major update late last night.
Premium Accounts
* Introductory price of $14.95/mo
* Custom domain, removal of our logo and bar, and increased video length limit
* More to come -- we'll be releasing new packages over time as well as the ability to just purchase individual features and make your own packages
* Tell us what you think! We want to provide something that benefits everybody.
Batch Uploader
Now you can finally queue up those video files you've been wanting to upload and just sit back, or just leave it running while you're out at a party telling everyone about Fliggo.
Importer
Already a big hit, you can now import your videos from YouTube and Blip. We'll be adding more services over time. If you have any requests, just leave a comment on our blog about it, we're listening!
Producer Template & Fulu Theme
Our newest design addition is the producer template. It comes equipped with our very own Fulu theme, and it looks great! It will be even better once we release HD, your videos could never look this sexy anywhere else.
New and Improved Dashboard
We've made the dashboard more user-friendly. You can now see how many total views your site has served to the world. There will be more improvements to the dashboard over time, making things much easier to manage. Feedback is always welcome!

While we tie down all of the final loose ends, I took some screenshots to give you a preview of some of the aesthetic changes to the dashboard.
It's generally been an aesthetic make-over. We've removed the icons and used text for all of the actions now and have made the interface more consistent and appealing.
Also note the little account type badge in the top right. Your first look at the premium accounts stuff :)
Dashboard
Note that you'll now be able to see the total amount of times videos have been viewed on your site. I love this number.
Videos
When you upload/import videos, the status will automatically update now so that you don't need to keep refreshing the page to see changes.

We're still alive! Here's a little update

We've been a bit quiet, I know. Mainly because we've been working feverishly to release our premium accounts system for you guys!
We are also getting more hard drives to store all of your wonderful videos :)
Here is what's coming up:
Premium Accounts - More details to come, the first package will allow you remove the Fliggo logo and use a custom domain.
New Uploader - Some people have been having issues with our current uploading system -- so this has bubbled up on our to-do list and has taken precedent over some other impending features. We'll try to get this over with quickly so that we can get back to releasing more exciting features. Although I'm sure I know some people who will be excited by a new uploader.
720p/480p/iPod video - Yes, I have seen it with my own eyes. Dan has been working hard at revamping our video transcoder and video player to support HD and HQ video. It looks so hot. So excited. Also, we'll have iPod formats to make available to download to your iPod, or maybe even... *gasp* iPhone?
Producer template/"Fulu" theme - This is pretty much finished -- we just have to change a few things to support this template and it will be going live. I've posted a little preview of what the theme/template will look like.
Meet fli.gg: A new short url for your Fliggo videos
Hey all,
We recently added the ability to share your videos on Twitter and FriendFeed. Sometimes URLs can get kind of long when you're sharing on these microblogging sites, so we've created our own short URL for your videos. Feel free to use it however you want.
URL: http://fli.gg/[video_id]
Your video ID is the alphanumeric string you can find in the web address of your video, i.e. http://[yoursite].fliggo.com/video/[video_id]

Back from SXSW, here's what's coming next!
Hey all,
We're back from SXSW and excited to be back to work. SXSW was great. We met a lot of people, spread the word about Fliggo, and have made a lot of new relationships.
The next features to expect from us are:
- Premium Accounts
- Bulk import from other sites (Youtube, Blip, etc)
- New Producer Template
- New Theme (Hulu style)
On the technical side of things, we're working to improve our encoder so that your videos get closer to 100% chance of a successful transcoding. We're at about 95% perfection right now.
