BREAKING: Fliggo to be rolled into Vidly

Dear Fliggo Faithfuls,

Fliggo started as a two-man initiative in September 2007 and it has come a long way since then. It's now 2 years later, and Fliggo has grown to power over 17,000 unique video sites and tens of thousands of users.

For most of our company's lifetime, Fliggo was entirely self-funded, until we were accepted into the Y Combinator program, which changed the trajectory of our company and lives forever. We then worked harder than ever before to build Fliggo to the point that it is now.

When we launched Fliggo officially as a "Create your own YouTube" site, we had great response and things were going well. Things were going so well that we were quickly running out of cash, and we needed to hire more people badly. So, we began an effort to raise money.

Raising money proved difficult in the current economic climate, despite the fact we had a good amount of paying customers. It was at that point that we decided to use the technology we built to roll out a Twitter video sharing service. We built it in a matter of days, and launched it to much critical acclaim.

Once TwitVid (now Vidly) launched on May 15, 2009, we worked as best we could, and succeeded, to get investment so that we could keep the lights on.

With Vidly taking off, we needed to make a decision about the future of Fliggo.  

While we want to continue running Fliggo, it has become impossible to run both services at the same time. We feel it's important that everyone understands how much we love Fliggo: we put our sweat, blood, and tears into running the service. It breaks our heart that we can't continue to run both websites.

Therefore, on November 1, we will be merging Fliggo in to Vidly.

Don't worry, your video collections will NOT BE LOST! You will be able to continue to access, manage and upload your videos to Vidly.

What you will lose, is your customization. While Vidly will have minor customization options, it will not be near the extensiveness of Fliggo's customization engine.

Paying customers will receive refunds where appropriate

We will be issuing refunds to customers that have signed up in the past month, or have prepaid for a year up front. From today, we will be disabling any further charges.

More details

We'll have more details in the coming weeks as to how we plan to merge the services and some further options that we can give you.
